Montana 2014 Part 1 – Day 45 – Billings: Wasting time

Thursday July 3, 2014, 13 miles (22 km) – Total so far: 1,998 miles (3,216 km)

It’s a hot day today, so I spend some time at the local history museum trying to stay out of the sun. The museum is associated with the Smithsonian, and the newer exhibits are well-done, but it is a tiny place and not worth the admission fee. So far, Billings has not impressed me.

I’m waiting for a call from the bike shop. When I stopped by yesterday, they did not have a chainring in stock that would work for me, but offered to put together an overnight order and get it in today. They said they’d then call me and I could come down and they’d install it. I sit around all day, hanging out in the shade in a park in the afternoon until it storms and I get rained on yet again, but they never call. Damn. I’m not sitting around here for the holiday weekend waiting for the bike shop to open again, so I’ll just have to take off without the ring.

Ugh. I’ve just wasted a day and more money than my budget prefers to stick around for nothing. Win some, lose some – the past few days I’ve been more on the losing end than the winning end of things. Let’s hope fortunes turn soon.
