Gunnison: Jenny joins the ride
Sunday June 20, 2010
Today’s a rest day and the day my friend Jenny joins us. She has convinced a co-worker to drive her here from Fort Collins so she can ride the last 10 days of the tour. Jen and I were thrown together as roommates in the dorms at Colorado State my freshman year (1994). We became good friends and have stayed in touch all these years, even though our lives are vastly different. She’s one of those friends where you pick up right where you left off no matter how long it’s been since you last saw each other.
As we transfer her gear from her friend’s car to Mom’s CRV I observe that Jen’s bike is incredibly tiny and light!! All three of us walk into town for a microbrew later. Jen decides she’d like to sleep outside, rather than on the floor of the motel room, and the motel owners are kind enough to let her sleep on the grassy area by the sauna. However, the parking lot lights drive Jen back indoors. We’ve stayed at the Rodeway Inn and can’t recommend the place enough. The owners have migrated from Poland (via Chicago) and invested a lot of money renovating the place. They are incredibly kind and went out of their way with hospitality during our stay – so I’m giving them a plug.
