Range Roaming – Wyoming 2013 – Day 59

Camphost hospitality: Madison Jct to Madison Jct campground

Wednesday June 12, 2013

I am due to meet my mom at the visitor centre at Grant Village tomorrow at noon. Grant Village campground isn’t open yet, and the forecast is for rain today, so the plan is to just hang out here today. I do get in a long walk down the river in the morning before the rain starts.

Last night I was the only person in the hiker biker area, but tonight I’m joined by four hikers whom I don’t meet, and two bikers whom I do. They are a couple of guys riding Denver to Portland. Things have been going well for them so far. I head to bed early so I can do another early start tomorrow.

The hiker biker area of the Madison Junction campground is just behind the pay station. They have picnic tables undercover, and several of the sites have tarps over them. They are incredibly friendly to hiker bikers here – they even have coffee/tea/hot water for the hiker bikers each morning. This is on the TransAmerica route, so they get alot of cyclists. This is a Xanterra campground, so it costs a couple bucks more than Mammoth which is not run by a concessionaire.
